The Center, first and foremost, carries the task of mandated by higher education regulation in the role and work in academic teaching and work, in research, and in assisting regional actors in governance and development. The center dedicates the work to enable a progress of governance and development in regional perspectives in Indonesia and in the context of regionalism in different administrative and geographic space. Moreover, the center works in law and policymaking where this allows mutual recognition among member of said regional unit.
The
works are focused to:
1. research on local democracy and local government/ The work is assigned to develop a better look into local democracy and local government. This is not only into matter of “better policy”, “better outcome of development”, but also how much and how far society and communities in it participate meaningfully in decision making.
2. Government and public administration/ The government capacitate itself to represent “the good” in society it represents. It develop a set of institution, learning capacity, and effective reach, which we can call “public administration” to govern. The matter of capability and reach of central government to local government in public service are key in this subject. The center develop a process of capacity building to government of provinces, districts, and of villages.
3. Economic development/ The center put attention both into endogenous and exogenous elements in government, public service, and economic opportunity. In this, the center develop a data set and comparative look into different factors in economic development.
